The Sector performs the following works:

  • designing, implementing and maintaining spatial, horizontal, vertical, gravimetric and astronomical reference networks of the Republic of Serbia, trigonometric networks, high-precision leveling network, astronomical and gravimetric network;
  • collecting data for the purposes of determining transformation parameters, determining parameters and residuals for the adopted transformation model;
  • defining the procedures and processes for the transformation of the survey into the new coordinate system;
  • design and internal control over the implementation of the new coordinate system, georeferencing and transformation of data into the national spatial reference system;
  • integration, control and verification of the spatial reference system in the applications based on the use of geospatial data;
  • provision of services in the implementation of geospatial data and the spatial reference system for the purposes of the operation of applications based on the use of geospatial data applied by state administration and local government bodies;
  • provision of local base services based on the application of GNSS technology for the purposes of navigation and tracking of vehicles and machinery, control of the realization of GNSS measurements in the process of the Real Estate Cadastre and Utility Cadastre maintenance, maintenance of the permanent stations network of global navigation satellite system (GNSS), control over the establishment of the GNSS permanent stations network;
  • control of the operation of the established GNSS permanent stations networks for the purposes of realization of the state survey;
  • realization of regional and local gravimetric survey and determination of geoid and quasi-geoid models;
  • creation and maintenance of the information system of basic geodetic works as a sub-system of the geodetic information system;
  • preparation of technical documentation for topographic survey, preparation and planning of periodic aerial surveying of the territory of the Republic of Serbia;
  • preparatory works for the drafting of technical documentation for the formation of a topographical-cartographic database and state maps;
  • monitoring the implementation of aerial photography (aerial photogrammetry, LIDAR, etc.);
  • maintaining a register of aerial photogrammetric and satellite imagery;
  • processing of photogrammetric material;
  • aerial triangulation;
  • creation of digital orthophoto;
  • maintaining a register of created and certified orthophotos;
  • creating and updating elevation models;
  • maintaining a register of created elevation models;
  • collection and control of vector topographic data;
  • collection and maintenance of the basic topographic model;
  • collection and control of data for registry of established changes to buildings and other registries of changes to properties;
  • collecting data and maintaining the register of geographical names;
  • updating the cartographic key for state maps;
  • production of national, overview and thematic maps, and other cartographic publications;
  • collection and processing of spatial data from various sources for the purposes of NSDI, international, infrastructural and projects of national importance, as well as for professional associations (EuroGeographics, UNGEG);
  • spatial and statistical analysis based on cartographic, topographical, cadastral and other databases and registries of spatial data;
  • issuance of data from cartographic databases for the needs of state authorities and other users;
  • acting upon requests for approval for issuing and putting into circulation cartographic publications;
  • inspectoral supervision of a legal entity that is engaged in issuing cartographic publications;
  • provision, analysis and processing of satellite imagery and orthophoto produced on the basis of satellite imagery;
  • defining the methodology for collecting data from satellite imagery for the purposes of creating remote sensing products and updating registries with established changes on buildings;
  • developing products using remote sensing methods;
  • quality control of remote sensing products;
  • quality control of collected satellite and orthorectified satellite imagery;
  • keeping records of orthorectified satellite imagery and remote sensing products;
  • cartographic processing and creation of teaching aids;
  • editorial and publishing activities;
  • archiving and distribution of data created within the Sector;
  • maintaining a register of processed, archived and distributed data;
  • keeping records of areas of special importance for the national defense;
  • standardization and harmonization of topographic-cartographic products in accordance with the technical framework of NSDI, international standards and the INSPIRE data specification;
  • participation in the development, implementation and maintenance of the geodetic-cadastral information system according to defined principles;
  • management, development and maintenance of the architecture and data structure within the jurisdiction of the RGA;
  • observatory measurements and tests of variations in the geomagnetic, geoelectric and electromagnetic fields of the Earth;
  • studying the spatial and temporal characteristics of magnetic, electric and electromagnetic field of the Earth, monitoring of temporal variations of those fields and the study of their causes;
  • monitoring and studying conditions and processes in the magnetosphere and ionosphere and making ionospheric forecasts;
  • electromagnetic tests and probing on the network of field stations and profiles;
  • study of the Earth's permanent magnetic field, determination of its regional configuration and measurements on the national network of secular stations and geomagnetic points of the first and second order and the creation of appropriate geomagnetic maps;
  • study of the laws of the development of the Earth's magnetic field and geomagnetic phenomena that precede an earthquake, as well as measurements in seismically and tectonically active areas;
  • paleomagnetic and archaeomagnetic field and laboratory tests;
  • monitoring and determining benchmarks and standards for working with observatory and laboratory instruments and devices and performing calibration of instruments and devices;
  • geomagnetic measurements at airports;
  • creation of observatory Yearbooks, reports and studies;
  • exchange of observatory and field data with international institutions and participation in development projects;
  • monitoring and application of international recommendations and standards in the field of geomagnetism and aeronomy;
  • internal controls over the performed works within the field of work of the Sector;
  • direct business communication and cooperation with the internal organizational units of the RGA in areas within the competence of the Sector;
  • participation in the implementation of international and donor projects;
  • participation in the preparation of professional bases for the drafting of laws and proposals for by-laws from the scope of work of the Sector;
  • providing expert opinion to internal organizational units of the RGA within the competence of the Sector;
  • preparation of mid-term and annual work programs of the Sector;
  • preparation of the work plan of the Sector, monitoring of its implementation and reporting.
