NATURAL DISASTER MAPS

Flood Map

The flood map is created on the basis of a semi-automatic, object-oriented analysis of orthorectified satellite imagery and represents the classification of areas that are covered by water and areas where the soil is saturated with water. The map is available in raster and vector format.

The map of flooded areas was created for:

  • the territory of western Serbia with a total area of 10,243 km2 using SPOT 6 satellite imagery with 1.5 m GSD collected on May 19th and 21st, 2014;
  • the territory of the municipality of Krupanj with a total area of 805 km2 using Pleiades satellite imagery with of 0.5 m GSD collected on May 21st and June 8th, 2014.

These maps provide information on the scope of endangered areas and the intensity of disasters and thus represent informational support for assessing damage, for timely response in emeregency situations, as well as for planning protection systems and making optimal decisions in the process of remediating the consequences of natural disasters.

Potential Landslides Map

The map of potential landslides is created on the basis of semi-automatic, object-oriented analysis of orthorectified satellite imagery and provides information on the locations of potential landslides in the territory affected by floods. The map is available in raster and vector format.

The map of potential landslides was created for the territory of the municipality of Krupanj with a total area of 397 km2, using Pleiades satellite imagery with 0.5 m GSD, collected on May 21st, 2014.

Drought Impact Map

It is possible to create drought impact maps if multispectral and multitemporal imagery is available (from different epochs within one year and from different years). The imagery from the year in which the natural conditions were the most optimal is taken as reference.

To generate these maps, in addition to biophysical parameters, it is necessary to use maps of agricultural land cover, since the impact of drought can only be identified on parcels with the same group of crops during those years.

As part of the implementation of the project "Establishment of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure and the Center for Remote Sensing in the Republic of Serbia - based on the IGIS solution (Integrated Geo-Information Solution)", an example of the Drought Impact Map for the territory of the municipality of Bečej was created for the year 2012.
